IJPC joins others across the state to mark Sunday as a Day of Hope\, so that we may never see another execution again. As we reflect on life today\, we remember the lives of the victims\, those who have been executed\, and the families of all who have been left behind. \nWe invite you to light a candle in your home at any time on July 18\, and take a picture of it and either send it to allison@otse.org or post it on Facebook\, Twitter\, or Instagram with the #NoDeathPenaltyOH. You are invited to include a comment about why you have hope for a future in Ohio without the death penalty.

The second gathering will be held virtually July 13-15\, 2021. In partnership with Creighton\, the 2021 conference expresses Catholic Climate Covenant’s leading role coordinating U.S. Catholic enactment of the Vatican “Laudato Si’ Action Platform.” \nThe 2021 conference will open on July 13 with a keynote event featuring His Eminence Blase Cardinal Cupich\, Archbishop of Chicago\, and Maureen Day\, PhD\, Assistant Professor of Religion and Society at the Franciscan School of Theology. The event\, “A Bold Embrace of Laudato Si’ By The U.S. Catholic Church\,” will assess why the U.S. Catholic response to Laudato Si’ has not been commensurate with the urgency and gravity of the climate crisis. \nOn July 14-15\, the conference will feature interactive breakout sessions facilitated by teams of ministry leaders working to more faithfully incorporate Laudato Si’ into eight areas of the U.S. Catholic Church: \n\nAdvocacy\nColleges/Universities\nCommunications/Media\nCreation Care Teams (especially at parishes and dioceses)\nEnvironmental Justice\nPreaching for Creation Care\nParochial School Education\nYouth & Young Adults\n\nEach ministry leadership team will share the strategies\, plans\, and resources being developed with members of their working group. Essentially\, self-care can be any activity that refreshes your mind and body\, and it is meant to add joy and fun to life. Practicing self-care is important for promoting individual growth\, but it also improves the way we interact and connect with others. DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, world-renowned Jewish artist Mark Podwal created 18 acrylic and colored pencil drawings inspired by Judaica from the Skirball Museum. Join Skirball director Abby Schwartz to see these deceivingly whimsical drawings and the ritual objects that inspired them and learn about both the original works and the profound and nuanced commentary on Jewish customs and history that Podwal brings to his work. \nAbby Schwartz has served as the director of the Skirball Museum on the campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion since July of 2013. She is the former curator of education at the Taft Museum of Art. She has lectured widely on Jewish art\, notably at the Melton School and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of the University of Cincinnati. While at the Taft\, she co-curated an exhibition of Jewish and Christian devotional objects with the Skirball Museum and served as general editor for the publication Artistic Expressions of Faith in Judaism\, Christianity\, and Islam\, first place winner of the 1998 Ohio Museums Association Visual Communications Award in the book/catalogue category. She has written exhibition catalogues and brochures\, and was involved with gathering photographic illustrations for the 4-volume catalogue of the Taft Museum of Art collections. Schwartz earned her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Rochester\, where she graduated cum laude\, Phi Beta Kappa\, and a master’s degree in art history from the University of Cincinnati. Her thesis topic was Hague School painter Jozef Israels\, with a special concentration on Sewing School at Katwijk. She is the recipient of the 2000 Museum Educator of the Year award from the Ohio Art Education Association and was a Wyoming Citizen of the Year in 2001. She was also the recipient of the 2003 National Art Education Association’s Museum Educator Award for the Western Region.
