SUMMARY:Lobbying 102: Preparation for Lobby Day
DESCRIPTION:In an effort to take extra precautions against the spread of COVID-19\, the #NoDeathPenaltyOH coalition is taking Lobby Day virtual. Rather than travel to the statehouse\, we will meet with legislators over the course of the week via Zoom to voice our support of death penalty abolition. \nOn October 19th\, let’s come together as a community to stand united against the death penalty. The coalition has planned programming and events alongside opportunities throughout the week to meet with legislators. Join us and register here. \nThank you to all who have taken the time to write to your legislator\, submit a letter to the editor\, make a phone call\, attend an event and more. Those actions take us one step closer to abolition and this work would not be possible without community. We hope you are able to join us for Lobby Day*. \n\n*Before attending virtual Lobby Day\, we ask that participants attend these trainings: \nLobbying 101\nTuesday\, October 5th\n6:30 PM\nRegister here \nLobbying 102\nTuesday\, October 12th\n6:30 PM\nRegister here \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Luba Lukova: Designing Justice
DESCRIPTION:Visual metaphors give voice to social justice issues in new exhibition at Freedom Center \nThe National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is turning to art in the fight for social justice. Luba Lukova: Designing Justice will feature a portfolio of social commentary prints and posters when it opens October 8. \nLuba Lukova: Designing Justice addresses essential themes of humanity and injustices worldwide through images embedded with thought-provoking messages. Lukova’s artwork helps viewers develop empathy for social and cultural issues through the use of metaphors and bold\, succinct symbols that communicates universal truths about desire\, fear\, creation\, hope and man’s endless capacity for love and hate. Among the themes addressed are peace\, censorship\, immigration\, ecology\, hunger and corruption. By the time guests leave the exhibition they will have been reminded that social issues across the globe demand to be addressed – and changed – through the commitment of well-intentioned individuals. In all\, Lukova’s images help provide inspiration for each of us to be a force for good in the world. \n“The power of art is the power to transform. Luba Lukova’s artwork encourages viewers to look inward as they stand before her images\, revealing as much about individuals as it does society\,” said Woodrow Keown\, Jr.\, president & COO of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “Designing Justice is a powerful addition to our museum experience and adds another critical step in guests’ personal journey as they reflect on the world around them and who they are in it.” \nLuba Lukova: Designing Justice opens October 8 in the Freedom Center’s Skirball Gallery. Admission is $10 for adults\, $5 for children and free for Freedom Center Members. For more information or to purchase tickets\, visit freedomcenter.org/designingjustice. The exhibition closes March 22\, 2022.

SUMMARY:Lobbying 101: Preparation for Lobby Day
DESCRIPTION:In an effort to take extra precautions against the spread of COVID-19\, the #NoDeathPenaltyOH coalition is taking Lobby Day virtual. SUMMARY:A Night for Life: Reflections on Survival
DESCRIPTION:Because of your commitment\, we have kept up our pace of gun violence prevention work\, even during the pandemic — including distribution of over 12\,000 gun safety kits across Kentucky and Ohio\, and training over 100 people in Save A Life prevention training. We couldn’t do this important work without you!\nWe’re hopeful you will join us at our upcoming A Night for Life event in Cincinnati later this month\, our most important fundraiser of the year\, and help us continue to work toward our mission to find common ground to end gun violence. \nA Night for Life 2021 will take place on September 25 and will highlight gun violence survivors and their Reflections on Survival. Each survivor has partnered with professional artists to share their stories of trauma and resilience through their chosen art form. Imagine the mass shooting of September 6\, 2018 as told through visual art and music or a homicide told through dance or spoken word. \nTo ensure the health and safety of everyone attending A Night for Life 2021\, we ask that each attendee\, vendor\, and performer provide either proof of vaccination status or a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry into the venue. For more information regarding the event and the many ways you can engage\, please visit this link.
