SUMMARY:COMMUNITY HARVEST GARDEN 2022 INFORMATION NIGHT
DESCRIPTION:The Community Harvest Garden at Christ the King Lutheran Church in West Chester is entering its second year. We would like to invite YOU to join us in helping to feed our community.\n\n\n\nThe Community Harvest Garden includes the large Shared Harvest bed in which we grow produce for local food pantries. We also have smaller garden beds which people can “adopt’ to grow their own food.\n\n\n\nNo experience is needed! We are a teaching-garden and have experienced gardeners to guide novices through the growing process. Everyone is welcome to participate and to share their talents and learn new skills. Volunteer gardeners are needed to help with planting\, maintenance\, and harvesting in the Shared Harvest bed. Experienced gardeners are welcome to join us as a “gardening partner” to those who may need assistance in their adopted bed.\n\n\n\nThere will be a COMMUNITY HARVEST GARDEN 2022 INFORMATION NIGHT on Wednesday\, February 9 at 7 pm. This meeting is for everyone interested in learning more about the garden and how they can get involved to grow food for themselves and our community. Join us in person at Christ the King Lutheran Church (7393 Dimmick Road\, West Chester) or on Zoom (register at https://bit.ly/gardeninfo22). If you can’t attend and would like to learn more\, contact us as communityharvestCTK@gmail.com.

Uddin (Aspen Institute) and George Yancey\, PhD\, (Baylor University) \nIn this opening charrette\, or problem-solving session\, George Yancey (Baylor University) and Asma Uddin (Aspen Institute) will explore how religious identity can sometimes transcend\, and thus serve as a bridge across\, these partisan divides. SUMMARY:Sacred Season of Climate Justice: Launch Call
DESCRIPTION:Between March 19 and May 6\, 2022\, there are five major sacred days or seasons\, an Equinox\, and Earth Day. Together\, these days collectively attract billions of people of diverse faiths and none to worship\, pray\, listen to sermons\, reflect\, and commit to act on what matters most. \n\nMarch 19 – 1.3 billion Hindus and 30 million Sikhs celebrate Holi\, which affirms the triumph of love and good over evil.\nMarch 20 – the sun passes the celestial equator\, one of two Equinoxes of the year\, affirmed by pagans and other people of spirit and earth around the world.\nApril 1-30 – 1.8 billion Muslims observe Ramadan\, their holiest month of the year\, which marks the arrival of the Qur’an.\nApril 10-17 – 2 billion Christians celebrate Holy Week and Easter\, marking Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection and the victory of life over death. A week later\, 260 million Orthodox Christians celebrate their holy week.\nApril 15-23 – 15 million Jews observe Passover\, the festival of Jewish liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt\nApril 22 – Earth Day engages over 1 billion people each year\, the world’s largest environmental observance.\nMay 6 – 535 million Buddhists observe Vesak – the birth of the Buddha\n\nJoin our launch call!\nMonday\, February 7\, 2022 English with Spanish interpretation\n10am ET / 6pm Nairobi / 10 pm Jakarta \nIf religious groups were to offer an impassioned call for an end to new fossil fuel projects and a just transition for all – across these major religious holidays\, when they collectively attract massive numbers of worshippers\, followers and adherents – it would attract media coverage\, help shift cultural narratives on climate change\, provide a boost to the climate justice movement\, surface new allies from diverse faiths and geographies\, and help take religious engagement on climate to a new level by grounding people of faith and spirit around the world in the theological and spiritual teachings that drive them. \nSo that’s what we’re going to do: People of faith will devote a sermon/spoken teaching or a public ritual/service during their sacred season to call for climate justice– rooted in eco-theologies and eco-spiritualities and then tell the world about it.

SUMMARY:Religion & Environment: An Interfaith Exploration of Conservation and Environmentalism
DESCRIPTION:Free online event \nFeatured lecture by Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim \nModerator: Reverend Stephanie Johnson \nPanelists:\nDr. Kareem Adeeb\nElizabeth Garnsey\nReverend Robert Kinnally\nCliff Knetchtle\nRabbi Jay TelRav \nHosted by the Congregational Church of New Canaan \nEvent Flyer \nRegister here for this free event.\nJoin the New Canaan Land Trust and Interfaith Council of New Canaan in an interfaith exploration of conservation and environmentalism. Centered around the three Abrahamic faiths\, this program will explore the different ways that religion tasks us with protecting and stewarding the earth. We welcome community members of all faiths to join us either in-person or virtually. \nThe program will begin with a lecture from Drs. Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim\, professors at Yale University\, and Co-Directors of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology. Their presentation will link conservation and environmentalism to the teachings of many of the world’s religions. Drs. Tucker and Grim will also help us to understand how different faiths interpret and ask us to respond to the environmental issues that we face today. \nFollowing the lecture\, we will host a panel discussion with faith leaders from in and around New Canaan. The panel will be moderated by Reverend Stephanie Johnson\, a former student of Drs. Tucker and Grim\, who has spent many years working at the intersection of theology and environmentalism and facilitates faith-based environmental programs.

SUMMARY:Different Trains: A Special Performance at Union Terminal
DESCRIPTION:Join us in commemorating the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center’s third anniversary at Union Terminal with a special performance of American Jewish composer Steve Reich’s “Different Trains.” \nAs a child during World War II\, Steve Reich rode trains between his divorced parents in New York and Los Angeles. Later in his life\, he realized that had he been in Europe\, he would have been on very “Different Trains\,” those leading to extermination camps. The piece highlights the intersections of history by combining the recorded voices of Holocaust survivors\, American train porters\, and train sounds\, with the playing of the string quartet\, to create a powerful\, moving experience\, and one uniquely appropriate for performance at the Holocaust & Humanity Center at Union Terminal. \nThis performance by 4-Way\, Cincinnati’s String quartet\, will also include African-American composer Rhiannon Giddens’ song\, “At the Purchaser’s Option.” The two pieces evoke memories of a tragic past filled with oppression and dehumanization\, experienced by Jews during the Holocaust and African Americans during slavery. At the same time both reflect on humanity’s struggle for survival and dignity in the darkest hour. \nRegister at the event website.

DESCRIPTION:Śaivism is the precursor of the many-faceted religion now termed Hinduism. Scholars trace the roots of Śiva worship back more than 8\,000 years to the advanced Indus Valley civilization. Śaivism’s grandeur and beauty are found in a practical culture\, an enlightened view of humans’ place in the universe and a profound system of temple mysticism and siddha yoga. \nJoin us in welcoming Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami. He met Sivaya Subramuniyaswami\, affectionately known as Gurudeva\, in 1964 and joined his monastery in 1965. In March\, 1972\, he received sannyas diksha in a powerful ceremony at which a number of monastics were initiated by Gurudeva at his Sri Subramuniya Ashram in Alaveddy\, Sri Lanka. At the time of Gurudeva’s transition\, maha samadhi\, in 2001 he was installed as Guru Mahasannidhanam of Kauai Aadheenam and the 163rd preceptor of the Kailasa Parampara.
