SUMMARY:IJPC Canvas for Affordable Housing (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:IJPC supports Cincinnati Action for Housing Now’s initiative for affordable housing and we need your help to get it on the November ballot. Join us this Saturday! \nThe day will include a brief training on how to collect signatures for the ballot initiative\, and then teams of two will go to Vine St\, Findlay Market\, and City Flea in Washington Park to talk to Cincinnati voters about how we can fund more affordable housing in the city. Lunch will be provided. Can’t stay the whole time? No problem – show up when you can. \nThe ballot measure would restore our earned income tax to its 2020 levels in order to provide a dedicated funding stream to develop housing for the most vulnerable. While there is some promising affordable housing development happening in Cincinnati\, very few of those units will serve those living <30% of the Area Median Income (<$18\,150/person). The .3% increase will result in $40-50 million per year dedicated to those who need it most. \nIJPC Canvass for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund\nSaturday\, May 13\n10:30 AM – 1:00 PM\nBuddy’s Place (Miami University Center for Community Engagement in Over-the-Rhine)\n1300 Vine Street\, Cincinnati\, OH 45202 \nParking suggestion: Mercer Garage or Washington Park \nSign up here!

SUMMARY:Selfunwinding Workshop with Dr. Bob Kohl (Dae Do Soen-sa) (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Bob Kohl is an osteopathic physician\, bodyworker\, and Zen teacher in the Furnace Mountain Sangha. He will be teaching his Selfunwinding process for using movement and awareness to facilitate rediscovery of our function as an integrated\, embodied whole. \nThe interactive format will emphasize our natural ability to move and express ourselves from our deepest and most honest selves\, connecting sensation\, emotion\, and movement within our bodies. We will share the intention to turn within\, exploring this thinking\, feeling\, moving creature we call a human being. \nWhen we move from our authentic thoughts\, emotions\, and history\, we begin to naturally heal. Participants may find greater freedom from tension\, chronic pain\, and physical and emotional discomfort as a result. \nParticipants should dress for comfortable movement. There will be a 1-hour lunch break\, during which participants can brown-bag or dine locally. Suggested donation $80. REGISTER HERE \nSee selfunwinding.com for more info about Dr. Bob’s approach.

SUMMARY:Farm Bill Education & Advocacy (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Every five years\, the Farm Bill – a massive piece of legislation which addresses farms\, food\, and foreign aid – is up for reauthorization. The amount of good this money does is almost immeasurable\, and as our office has a special focus on rural life\, poverty\, and global solidarity\, we are especially interested in what happens with this process\, i.e. how much money is allocated and how it will be used. \nThis year\, the Social Action Office of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is partnering with the Catholic Conference of Ohio\, the dioceses of Columbus and Cleveland\, and Bread for the World to offer events in each of these areas of Ohio. Each of the events will be held from 7:00-9:00pm and will be offered in person and streamed online. \n\nCleveland’s presentation will be held at St. Monica Parish in Garfield Heights on Thursday 4/27.\nCincinnati’s presentation will be held at the Community of the Good Shepherd in Cincinnati (8815 E Kemper Road) on Thursday 5/4.\nColumbus’s presentation will be held at the Martin de Porres Center in Columbus on Wednesday 5/10.\n\nRegistration to attend in person is requested\, and it’s required to join virtually. If you have any questions\, please let Andrew know.

SUMMARY:Jewish Family Services Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Jewish Family Service’s 80th Annual Meeting\n7:00 p.m. on Thursday\, April 20\, 2023\nAmberley Room of The Mayerson JCC\n8485 Ridge Ave\, Cincinnati Ohio 45236\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have much to celebrate this year. For eight decades\, JFS has been an important and integral part of our community. And we’ve evolved over the years to address ever-changing needs. Today we serve people throughout our diverse community—with professionalism and expertise.\n\nAs we like to say\, JFS is here for everyone—whether it was helping Holocaust survivors and their families immigrate and assimilate in the 1950s\, or guiding Cincinnati’s struggling youth to high-quality mental health resources today in the 2020s—we believe that everyone deserves to live with dignity\, security\, and hope.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to celebrating the historical and current accomplishments of JFS\, we will welcome our keynote speaker\, Tricia Stern\, Vice President of Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services at the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies (NJHSA). Tricia is an expert on ways to meet the significantly increasing mental health needs of youth\, young adults\, and parents.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe annual meeting is also a great opportunity to acknowledge and honor our donors\, lay leaders\, and volunteers. From 1943 to today\, we have consistently benefited from your extraordinary generosity and stewardship. With Jewish Family Service’s 80th Annual Meeting\, we hope in some small way to demonstrate our sincere appreciation.
