SUMMARY:Hope Story Circles (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us at our 100th Hope Story Circle on November 11th\, to come together to honor our shared humanity and all of the stories that have been gathered through this time. Following this celebration\, we are going to suspend the Hope Story Circles\, making way for other initiatives to emerge. \nOur Hope Story Circles began in March of 2020\, when we were first isolating due to the pandemic. What was initially planned to last a month or two\, extended into more than three years of extraordinary moments\, where stories were told that focused on our shared humanity. These Peace On podcasts have had thousands of downloads\, as the stories continue to touch people who weren’t present at the time. \nAs we come together for this celebration\, please come ready to share! What is the title of a story that you would like to hear\, or that you would like to tell? \nBy coming together\, we are inviting these stories into the world! \nPlease come and join us as we celebrate the stories that bring us together\, as we enter a new phase of Peacebuilding! \nWe would be thrilled to have you join us\, and bring friends! Find the zoom connect information at the Calendar on our website.

SUMMARY:O22 Day - National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Nonviolent practice calls us to not only name institutions of violence\, but to also do something about it. As practitioners of strategic nonviolence\, we recognize the power we hold when people come together to organize under shared values. That is why Ignite Peace is in collaboration with the Ohio Families Unite Against Police Brutality (OFUABP)\, an organization guided by the policy demands of people who have lost someone to police violence. These policy demands include implicit bias and de-escalation training for police officers and reducing deadly use of force. Together\, we can reshape bad policies and practices in a way that empowers all of us to create safety and peace in our lives\, families\, and communities. We know a better future is possible\, and by walking together\, we can demand that our elected leaders make this a place where all of our rights and our lives are respected. \nOFUAPB is convening a protest for O22 Day National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality to commemorate the lives lost to police violence. The gathering will take place on Sunday\, October 22nd at the Columbus Statehouse starting at 2pm. \nSunday\, October 22\n2:00 – 4:00 PM\nColumbus Statehouse \nDonate Shoes \nDonate a pair of shoes which will be used to commemorate one of the lives lost to police violence during the protest in Columbus. Drop them off at the Ignite Peace office on the second floor at 215 E 14th Street. Shoes will be donated after the event. \nStay tuned for webinars and more information sessions.

SUMMARY:Three Exhibitions: One Opening Night (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:After a lengthy closure\, the galleries devoted to Torah\, Life Cycle\, and Holidays and Festivals in the Skirball’s core exhibition An Eternal People: The Jewish Experience\, are once again open with new cases\, new signage\, and ritual objects from the B’nai B’rith Klutznick Collection that have never been on view before. Old favorites are seen in a whole new light\, literally and figuratively. \nThis grand reopening is made even more meaningful by the opportunity to bring the work of Santa Fe-based artist Ellie Beth Scott to the Skirball’s second floor foyer. For her exhibition Eve: I Understand\, Scott was inspired by selected ritual objects in the Skirball collection used by women and by practices performed by women\, rendering richly colored pieces using fabric\, thread\, paint\, buttons\, and beads. \nIn the fourth-floor gallery\, the focus on women continues with Motherhood Essence and the Feminine Divine: Cincinnati and Israeli Artists Interpret The Female Experience\, organized by ish in celebration of Israel at 75. Ish\, whose mission is to create intentional spaces for connection and acceptance through the arts\, brings together four Israeli and four Cincinnati artists to create eight original works of art and four additional works that interpret and “re-art” the work of their colleagues. The works respond to the power of women as community builders\, organizers\, and healers through times of crisis and change. \nAll events below will take place at Mayerson Hall\, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion\, 3101 Clifton Avenue\, Cincinnati\, OH. \nThursday\, October 19\, 2023 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.\n5:30 p.m. | Reception\n6:15 p.m. | Welcome: Abby Schwartz\, curatorial consultant to the Skirball Museum and Marie Krulewitch-Browne\, executive director of ish\nRemarks: Ellie Beth Scott\, Israeli artist Dana Cohen\, and Cincinnati artist Avery Plummer share insights on their respective exhibitions\, Eve: I Understand and Motherhood Essence and the Feminine Divine. \nRegistration required.
