SUMMARY:Share the Journey: A Concert for Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Bellarmine Chapel will once again host the seventh annual Share the Journey: A Concert for Compassion on Sept. 28th at 7:00pm.The concert will be live and livestreamed and will raise funds for four organizations on the front line of working with immigrants and refugees. This year’s concert’s feature performer will be Jesse Manibusan. The initial event was inspired by the 2-year global campaign called “Share the Journey” launched by Pope Francis in 2017 to heighten global awareness of the arduous journey facing migrants\, immigrants\, and refugees throughout the world\, and to invite Christians to share the journey with them in a spirit of compassion and hope. The intent of the concert is to raise awareness of issues faced by immigrants\, provide assistance to organizations working with migrants\, and offer hope to all of us as we address these issues. Additional information can be found at Share the Journey Concert: A Concert for Compassion – Bellarmine Chapel

SUMMARY:Skills for Disagreeing Better – Dayton Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a free Braver Angels workshop that teaches skills for communication across the political divide. In this polarized time\, we lack basic understanding of why people on the other political side hold their beliefs. We don’t see them as they see themselves–their core values and central concerns–but instead as we choose to see them. We are tempted to regard our own side as principled and the other side as self-interested. And when we try to communicate across this gap\, we often lack the skills for listening carefully\, looking for common ground\, and sharing our perspectives in ways that connect rather than create more misunderstanding. We can learn to disagree better in polarized times\, which means accurately seeing where we differ and where we share common ground. \nGoals of the workshop: \n\nMore understanding of the values and concerns of people who differ from you politically\nBetter skills for listening in a way the other person feels heard\nBetter skills for sharing viewpoints in a way the other person might hear even if they disagree

SUMMARY:Depolarizing Within – Dayton Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Depolarizing Within Workshop is a free workshop with Braver Angels that helps participants look within to see how they are engaging or participating in polarizing ways. The workshop offers participants the tools to develop strategies for engaging in political discussion without demonizing the other side. It also shows how to constructively intervene in social conversations with like-minded peers. \nThis workshop is designed to foster skills to recognize and lessen the effects of polarization when encountered within political conversations with your like-minded circle. When referring to “polarization\,” Braver Angels is not referring to healthy disagreements over issues or philosophy. We are looking at how we regard and talk in polarizing terms about large groups of ordinary people on the other side of the political aisle. \nGoals of this workshop: \n\nDevelop strategies for engaging in political discussion without demonizing the other side\nConstructively intervene in social conversations with likeminded peers\nRecognize and lessen the effects of polarization when encountered within political conversations with your like-minded circle\,
