SUMMARY:Community Conversation: Leadership through a Woman's Lens
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 20\, 2020 | 6:00PM Reception | 7:00PM Program\nNational Underground Railroad Freedom Center\n50 East Freedom Way\, Cincinnati\, Ohio 45202 \nThe year 2020 marks the centennial of a pinnacle moment in the women’s suffrage movement—the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. This conversation kicks off a year of suffrage-related programming and seeks to illuminate the struggle and triumph of women in leadership roles. From government\, politics\, business\, higher education\, and sports\, women are shattering the glass ceiling and seeking to advance equity along the way. \nThe 116th Congress has the highest percentage of women members in U.S. history at 106 members. This is a reflection of change\, revealing that women are making remarkable strides to be represented and be acknowledged as leadership and decision-makers. Yet\, representation does not mean access nor does it mean that challenges do not exist. \nThis meaningful conversation is sponsored by Procter and Gamble and presented in partnership with the Political Science Department at the University of Cincinnati.  Panelists will include: \nDr. Tammy L. Brown\, Associate Professor of Global and Intercultural Studies (Black World Studies) at Miami University\nDr. Susan Tinsley Gooden\, Interim Dean and Professor of Public Administration and Policy at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University\nDr. Kyra Shahid\, Director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion at Xavier University.\nFree and open to the public\, seating is limited. \nReserve your seat.

SUMMARY:World Interfaith Harmony Week
DESCRIPTION:Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week from February 1-7\, 2020 \nThe United Religions Initiative is excited to celebrate United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW). This celebration happens in early 2020 so now is the time to start planning (if you haven’t already!) \nWorld Interfaith Harmony Week is a week-long celebration that promotes dialogue among people of different traditions to create mutual understanding\, cooperation\, and harmony. \nIn addition to WIHW being a great time to celebrate these aims with like-minded people all around the world\, H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan also offers three cash prizes ($25\,000\, $15\,000 and $5\,000) for events that celebrate the week. \nThe World Interfaith Harmony Week\nAnnual UN Observance Week: Feb. 1-7 \nThe World Interfaith Harmony Week was first proposed at the UN General Assembly on September 23\, 2010 by H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan. Just under a month later\, on October 20\, 2010\, it was unanimously adopted by the UN and henceforth the first week of February will be observed as a World Interfaith Harmony Week. \nThe World Interfaith Harmony Week is based on the pioneering work of The Common Word initiative. This initiative\, which started in 2007\, called for Muslim and Christian leaders to engage in a dialogue based on two common fundamental religious Commandments; Love of God\, and Love of the Neighbour\, without nevertheless compromising any of their own religious tenets. The Two commandments are at the heart of the three Monotheistic religions and therefore provide the most solid theological ground possible. \nThe World Interfaith Harmony Week extends the Two Commandments by adding ‘Love of the Good\, and Love of the Neighbour’. This formula includes all people of goodwill. It includes those of other faiths\, and those with no faith. \nThe World Interfaith Harmony Week provides a platform—one week in a year—when all interfaith groups and other groups of goodwill can show the world what a powerful movement they are. The thousands of events organized by these groups often go unnoticed not only by the general public\, but also by other groups themselves. This week will allow for these groups to become aware of each other and strengthen the movement by building ties and avoiding duplicating each others’ efforts.
