Join us on Monday\, May 25th for the 17th Annual Hunger Walk and 5K Run! This year’s race starts bright and early at 9AM. Since its inception in 2004\, the Hunger Walk and 5K Run has raised more than $2\,000\,000.00\, the equivalent of 6\,000\,000 meals\, for Freestore Foodbank community partners serving 20 counties in Greater Cincinnati\, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana. With each step you are taking you are directly impacting lives of those in our community. Spend your Memorial Day with us and walk\, run\, skip\, or stroll around the Ohio River! Register now and take a stand against hunger! \n \nYour registration or donation will help support the Freestore Foodbank’s network of 511 partner food pantries\, soup kitchens\, shelters and community centers. Join us for an exploration in the field of trauma theology\, in the hopes that what we already know about trauma and recovery can help us survive and thrive in this moment. \nhttp://www.bellarminechapel.org/courage-ahlgren.html \n \nLetter from ISSJ Director\, Anna Miller \nWe stand in the midst of Holy Week and there are beautiful signs of spring outside my window.  This season in the church and in nature speaks to transition and change\, a journey from darkness into light.  In a Holy Week unlike any we have experienced in our lifetimes\, the symbolic journey of this week perhaps has never been more powerful.  Many of us have new understanding of the pain\, confusion and fear that the disciples felt when they confronted a violence and death that upended their vision of a just world- a world that made sense.  Have we ever been so prepared to understand the truly radical change and deep hopefulness of the resurrection?  Now\, as we wait for that moment of life-giving change\, Mary Magdalene may serve as one of our best teachers in her refusal to allow fear to turn her from the critical work of caring for\, of insisting upon the humanity\, of the most marginalized. \nDuring this time\, as always\, the Institute for Spirituality and Social Justice is here to provide a space for learning\, reflection\, community building\, and creating a new social imagination.  Please check out our upcoming classes and come together with us in virtual community for the talks by Professor Gillian Ahlgren and Professor Ashley Theuring\, talks that draw upon the richness of the spiritual and theological tradition to speak to the challenges we face at this unique time.

DESCRIPTION:Yom Hashoah 2020: A Week of Digital Holocaust Remembrance \nWhile we are unable to gather in person for Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)\, please join us online Sunday\, April 19 through Thursday\, April 23 for a week of moving Holocaust remembrance programs to remember the six million victims of the Holocaust and honor the survivors. Below is the full schedule of events\, which can also be viewed online at: holocaustandhumanity.org/yom-hashoah-2020/ \n\nSunday\, April 19 at 1:00 PM\nWebinar with Dr. Rachel Korazim on “Facing Absence” \nFor many years Holocaust (Shoa) commemoration focused on the horrible loss and its cruel details. The laws\, the markings\, the segregation\, deportation and murder. Our songs and stories tried hopelessly to capture the pain and the indescribable suffering. We should never let them be erased and forgotten. Yet it is time for us to try and capture the memory of their lives and make them our memories. We need to understand that they did not just disappear – they left us a legacy of how of how to walk in their footsteps. Visiting the places they lived in even when all we have is a wall\, an empty lot or a synagogue turned into community center – should become part of our journey. \nThis is an invitation to join my journey to rural Hungary in the wine land of Tokai:\nWe will explore the renewal of Jewish life in the beautifully renovated synagogue of Mad. We will imagine back Jewish family life as we face the empty lot where the Mikve (ritual bath) stood. We will listen to music still sung in those parts and remember the rabbis who composed it. The main centers of Jewish life nowadays are in North America and in Israel yet our memories linger on in Europe\, in the land our forefathers and mothers called home.
