SUMMARY:Resilience: A Holocaust Survivor Reflects on Life During the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:In spring of 1941\, the Germans invaded Soviet-occupied Poland\, forcing Jews into ghettos a few months later. In fall of 1942\, Toby Levy and her family went into hiding until June 1944 when they were liberated by the Red Army. Today\, Ms. Levy\, a retired accountant and a volunteer docent for the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City\, remains hopeful that the COVID-19 pandemic will not steal her last years just as the Holocaust stole her youth. Join Ms. Levy on January 26\, for a special conversation in the lead up to International Holocaust Remembrance Day. \nhttps://zoom.us/webinar/register/6316104995169/WN_HrKXEOKBS3K6ke0WqJbaZg \nRead Ms. Levy’s powerful\, poignant\, and timely opinion piece in The New York Times here: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/03/opinion/holocaust-covid-lockdown-pandemic.html

SUMMARY:Inspired by Nature: The Art and Activism of Charley Harper
DESCRIPTION:  \nImage:https://charleyharperprints.com/charley-harper/about-charley-harper/ \nCincinnati Museum’s offers a special exhibit entitled Inspired by Nature:The Art and Activism of Charley Harper. \n‘Beloved artist Charley Harper (1922-2007) saw the natural world around him with empathy and whimsy. He revealed the natural world through geometric reduction and imagined the similarities between human and wild animal behaviors in witty prose. Each painting had an accompanying short story that provided insight into the whimsy with which he viewed the natural world – and the environmental issues facing it. \nThe exhibition is more than an art gallery – it challenges us to confront alarming issues threatening the Earth and its inhabitants\, including global warming\, water pollution and habitat destruction. He believed humor made it easier to encourage changes in our attitudes toward environmental concerns. His accompanying text offers a cheeky quip about the realities of the wild or a stark message for future – now current – generations facing serious environmental issues. \nExplore 30 of Harper’s iconic works from the collections of Cincinnati Museum Center and select donors in Inspired by Nature: The Art and Activism of Charley Harper.’ \nRead More
