SUMMARY:Birth\, Sickness\, Aging\, Death and Meditation with Aruni Marapane
DESCRIPTION:Meditation is one of greatest art of life\, perhaps the greatest. One can possibly learn from one self\, that is the beauty of it. It’s about observing yourself\, you learn about your own self\, how mind and body is interactive and interdependent. With correct mindfulness you can meditate\, in any situation you are in all day long. \nMeditation is for me is like a huge “umbrella”. It covers a vast area in every aspect of life\, physically\, emotionally\, mentally and spiritually. You can take this “umbrella” to protect you from any kind of weather. Its flexible\, adaptable\, adoptable yet a beautiful aid which gives shelter\, security\, comfort\, clear comprehension and wisdom. As I see\, we are all seekers. Through out our lives we all seek some thing in our lives mental or otherwise. The four questions I always ask are\, \nWhat is meditation?\nWhy we want meditate?\nWhat is the use if meditation?\nWhere does it gets you? \nSo\, with so much love and compassion in my heart\, I would like to invite you to have a journey with me together\, have an open discussion\, investigation\, inquiry to look in to universal divine qualities such as loving kindness\, compassion\, joy and equanimity. By doing so let’s look at our human conditioning birth\, decay or aging\, sickness and death constructively and objectively. And how we can mindfully observe\, self-investigating\, taking personal responsibility of our lives\, turn these very real human aspects in to peaceful\, joyful states which benefits our selves and others around us.

SUMMARY:Kashruth (Jewish Dietary Laws)\, Community\, and Control: Shehitah (Ritual Slaughter) Manuals and Their Afterlives in Early Modern Europe
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Joshua Teplitsky\, Associate Professor of History\, Stony Brook University \nHow did someone learn to be a kosher butcher in early modern Europe\, and what sort of material traces remain from that process? Manuals for ritual slaughterers were a remarkably popular genre in Jewish printing in the early modern period. While these books might appear to be “do it yourself” guides to preparing kosher meat\, the handwritten inscriptions in the margins and blank pages allow us to reconstruct the process by which someone studied and was certified to be a shohet (ritual slaughterer). Discover how print and manuscript culture interacted in the transmission of practical instruction and of “book learning” and learn about the upheavals caused by cases of forgery\, deception\, and fraud amidst Jewish efforts at regulating\, certifying\, and controlling the production of kosher meat in modern Europe. \nPresented by the Klau Library.

SUMMARY:The 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits\, particularly those dealing with issues of race\, power\, privilege\, and leadership. Our challenge starts on Monday\, March 1st and continues (Monday –Friday) through March 29th.\n\nEach day of the challenge you will be presented with activities such as reading an article\, listening to a podcast\, reflecting on personal experience and more. Participation in an activity like this helps us to discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact our community\, to connect with one another\, and to identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.\n\nWe hope that you will go into this challenge with an open heart and an open mind\, ready to be pushed out of your comfort zone. We know these discussions can be difficult and can bring up powerful emotions\, but your commitment to increasing your awareness is what will help move our community forward.\n\nTo engage with other people doing the challenge\, use the hashtag #YWCAEquityChallenge to share your reflections on social media. \nThis is an exciting opportunity to dive deep into racial equity and social justice\, and we’re glad to have you join us.
