SUMMARY:Closing the Wealth Gap: Race\, Wealth\, and Homeownership
DESCRIPTION:This virtual conference will explore ways to uplift our Black and Brown communities through homeownership which builds individual wealth and will ultimately help Cincinnati create a more vibrant\, diverse\, resilient and equitable community. The most significant indicator of systemic racism in the United States is the wealth gap between Blacks and Whites. The disparity in homeownership accounts for a significant part of that wealth gap. The gap in Cincinnati could not be more clear. Black home ownership in Cincinnati is around 31% while white home ownerships is around 73% – a 42% gap. \nAs we seek to address the crisis in affordable housing there is the need to look at this deeper\, systemic issue of the wealth gap. This means addressing the question not only in terms of subsidized rental markets but also in terms of homeownership and fair housing. \nThis event will raise consciousness about this inequity and further discuss how we might address it in the Cincinnati region. We invite you to join us to address the many issues surrounding Black homeownership locally and nationally. We will explore how an increase in Black home ownership can become a key component in helping to create Black wealth. We will explore how this is being done in other parts of the Country and what we should do locally to promote greater homeownership among \nTo participate\, register online here\, or copy this address into your browser: https://hopin.com/events/race-wealth-and-homeownership-49deb11f-ac63-403d-be8e-f7526431a0a2#top

SUMMARY:Practicing Religion: A Comparative Approach to the World's Religions
DESCRIPTION:Join Interfaith Partnership in Spring 2021 for a ten-week virtual course exploring practices of the world’s religious traditions. The course will be organized around a central theme\, namely that there are certain human “practices\,” and that these differ among the religions of the world. For instance\, nearly all world religions are committed to hospitality\, but how they practice hospitality can be very different. Or again\, religions of the world have an understanding of “dying well\,” but how this most human of activities is practiced differs widely. Each class will focus on a “practice” and look at the practice from the perspective of differing religious communities. Classes will take a comparative approach\, but not a comprehensive one; although every class will not be able to discuss every major religion\, we will seek to include a breadth of examples over the course of the semester. \nRev. Dr. David Greenhaw\, an ordained Christian minister\, is the recently retired president of Eden Theological Seminary. Prof. Greenhaw began his teaching career at Vanderbilt University and has lectured on five continents. He is currently the Chair of the Cabinet of Interfaith Partnership. \nThis course will be offered for free to ensure that cost is not a barrier. That being said\, Interfaith Partnership relies on donations to survive; if you are able to donate\, we would deeply appreciate your financial support. \nCourses will stream through Zoom on Tuesday nights from 7-8:10pm. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:In the Name of Human Fraternity: Dialogue as the path\, cooperation as the code\, understanding as the method
DESCRIPTION:The Legacy \nIt is hard to exaggerate the legacy of the meeting between St. Francis of Assisi and Sultan Malik Al-Kamil in 1219\, a historical encounter that took place in the midst of the Fifth Crusade. This event is still remembered as a landmark of religion’s transformative power despite differences even during the most unwelcoming moments. In 3-5 February 2019\, His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayyeb signed “A Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” in the United Arabic Emirates to mark the 800th anniversary of the iconic meeting. \n
The Document \nThe Human Fraternity Document\, rather than being a symbolic commemorative text\, draws inspiration from the past for concrete future action. It is realistic in admitting the challenges humanity faces today\, straightforward in highlighting the vital role of religion while addressing them\, inclusive in recognizing the role that various stakeholders can play in solution\, and interdisciplinary in inviting many forms of human expertise to the universal endeavor. In an act of due recognition of this initiative by the global community\, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 15 2020 (A/75/L.52) that proclaims February 4 as the “International Day of Human Fraternity”\, to be observed each year beginning in 2021. \nThe Event \nThe eminent signatories of the Human Fraternity “ask that this Document become the object of research and reflection in all schools\, universities and institutes of formation”. Rumi Forum welcomes this call by hosting the panel “In the Name of Human Fraternity” on the first International Day of Human Fraternity. Join us for a spectrum of reflections by a panel of prominent Catholic and Muslim speakers and an interactive session that will follow. The panel aims to observe the first International Day of Human Fraternity by highlighting the operational vision of the Human Fraternity Document rather than being a ceremonial text of goodwill. \nSpeakers \nDr. Pim Valkenberg\, Catholic University of America \nThe Document on Human Fraternity and Pope Francis: Initiatives toward Encounters of Friendship \nDr. Zeki Saritoprak\, John Carroll University \nOn the Necessity of Human Fraternity: Theological and Practical Reflections \nGenevieve Mougey\, Director of the Office for Social Concerns\, Archdiocese of Washington \nThe Work of Social Friendship\, Dialogue\, and Pastoral Applications: A Catholic Perspective on Interfaith Dialogue
